Anna specialises in Family and Relationship Law. Anna has practised predominantly in Family Law since coming to Butler McIntyre & Butler in October 2000. Anna became a Partner in 2004.
After completing a combined degree in Arts/Law majoring in Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Tasmania, Anna was admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania and High Court of Australia in 1997. Anna worked at two Hobart law firms before moving to Melbourne to practise with the medium tier firm, Gadens, specialising in Telecommunications Law.
Anna has also had experience working in the London firm, Field Fisher Waterhouse, again specialising in Telecommunications Law. On her return from the United Kingdom, Anna joined Butler McIntyre & Butler, establishing a practice in Family Law.
Anna has extensive experience in matters relating to children in the breakdown of a relationship, the care arrangements for children following separation and the distribution of property acquired during a marriage, significant relationship and/or same sex relationship. In addition, Anna is also proficient in providing advice relating to surrogacy, child support, spousal maintenance and family violence orders.
What underpins Anna’s practice is the desire to find an outcome for clients that is a balance of the maximum legal outcome with the most positive and practical outcome for that client and their family.
Anna works with both private clients and clients funded by the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania. Anna has a strong working relationship with community based organisations that assist separating parties with the emotional and day to day challenges following the breakdown of a relationship.
Anna is on the Independent Children’s Lawyer Panel for the Family Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia and the Magistrates Court (child welfare jurisdiction). Anna is a member of Pathways, the Family Law Practitioners’ Association and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. Anna is also the co-ordinator of the practical component of the Family Law Unit taught at the Centre for Legal Studies for trainee solicitors.
Anna is currently a council member on the Law Society of Tasmania, a Board member of the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation and an Alternate Director on the National Board for Variety the Children’s Charity.
