Peter is one of Butler, McIntyre & Butler’s long standing legal practitioners joining the firm in 1978. Peter specialises in business law, business transactions, estate planning, elder law and trusts.
Peter retired from the partnership in January 2016. He stays with the firm on a part-time basis as a consultant.
Peter completed his legal training in Hobart gaining a Bachelor of Law through the University of Tasmania . He was admitted to the bar in 1976. Peter went on to study for a Masters in Commercial Law through Deakin University in 1999 and completed a Graduate Diploma in Managing Legal Organisations through Melbourne University in 2006.
Peter has long been interested in protecting the assets of his clients and maximising his clients’ personal superannuation wealth.
Peter provides advice to a number of high profile large and small Tasmanian business clients from the manufacturing sector, the service industry and farming. He also receives mainland agency referral work.
Peter is a member of the Taxation Institute of Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is Chair of the Tasmanian branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Peter is also a Director and current Chairman of the Board of the Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania Limited and a Director and current Chairman of the Board of the Australia Automobile Association.
When away from the office, Peter indulges in his interest in landscape photography, gardening and travelling.
